那么，如果留下痕迹的客体其实根本“不存在”呢？论文引用的权威词条可以是作者伪造的，流传了几个世纪的岛屿其实只存在于错误的地图里，惊人的幻境只是源自致幻蘑菇的误食，就连我们生活的世界也可能是由超级电脑模拟而成。当然，它们中的一些已经被真实的世界证伪而被消灭，有些还因无法被分辨而被保留，甚至也可能继续以“真实”的面貌生存在这个世界里。但无论如何，痕迹早已留下，并作用到了人和物的身上，对这个世界施加了一定的形变。只是随着时间的流逝，真实与虚假杂糅在一起、不断重叠。我们有一天也终将无法再分辨那些印迹，直到被忘记，直到成为我们的一部分。
