一个镜子似乎可以装下许多东西，无论是小还是大：它当然可以映照出一片纯白，装得进爱人的眼睛。如果你想，它便也容得下绵延的山河和无垠的天空。镜面是最广博的容器，而地图则是想将世界都绘制在内的愿望。我不得不看到这两者间的相似，亦主动将它们组合在一起。而当你拿起一个梳妆镜，或用手翻转到镜子的另一面时，愿你也可以在这里看到一片世界的小小倒影。

这个作品最先来源于我发现案头的双面翻转镜子和浑仪的结构有点儿像：它们都需要不断调整和翻转才能更好地观察地球或我自己。同样都是观察者的角色，让我几乎是立即想到了地图，更何况平面的纸也更适合平滑的镜面。所以在这个镜子上，我选择用中国古代星象图和17世纪的西方星座图作为正反两侧的内容——它们正好是对应的关系：同样的一片天空，东方和西方是如何通过不同的眼睛绘制出了两幅星图。
第二个镜子是我淘到的中古梳妆镜——又是一个我手边的物件。它的边缘和背面有着繁复的纹样，为了统一这样的质感，我用精雕的世界地形图镶嵌在内，附着一个小小的指北针。在下午4、5点钟，日光正好在青藏高原旁投下一道阴影。
